Ahh... fastmail catches spam

Briliant! I’ve just activated fastmail’s new spam filter, and they’re catching around 40 spam mails per day for me. What a relief! Outsourcing rules.

    Beware

I use fastmail's antispam system myself and I'm very happy with it. However, it turns out that SpamAssassin (which is what they use) does have false positives as well (it only happened twice to me, but the messages were important enough to notice :). To avoid this, I file all the spam-rated messages into a separate folder and check it every now and then.

Thanks, you're right Thanks for the heads-up. Yes, I do that. I've set my threshold to the lowest possible, and that means that it screens all mail that looks like an HTML page, such as The Economist periodic spam. Luckily it's just a matter of creating a rule for that with a higher priority than the spam filter rule.

But you're right. I guess there'll also be false positives and false negatives.
