Buying cheap RAM for Powerbooks

August 31, 2004 · See comments

I’m buying a Powerbook, and Apple charges an outrageous DKK 5,950 for a 1 Mb chunk of RAM. Even excluding the 25% VAT, that comes out to USD 773, compared to transintl.com, who charges just USD 299. However, their system isn’t setup to ship to Denmark (unless you call in, which I’ll do unless I hear about a better option here).

Is there a place in Denmark, or nearby, which sells Powerbook RAM cheaper than Apple? Where do people in Denmark with Powerbooks buy their RAM?

Danish PB ram First, I hope you can get a Gb for your 5k+ kroner. They're not _that_ evil... But: Anywhere else than Apple are cheaper. Officeline (Apple shop on Åboulevarden, Cph) charges about 3.300 kroner - and you should be able to just buy RAM with the right specs at any online retailer; the Powerbooks are apparantly quite picky when it comes to quality but even Kingston etc. is available at those prices. I'm on the lookout for a 1 Gb block myself for my 12" - had more or less decided that it wasn't worth the trouble getting it shipped, but it seems you can save quite a lot of money...

Crucial.com I use crucial.com for all my RAM. They have a European site at http://www.crucial.com/eu/index.asp and they do list Apple comaptible RAM.

crucial.com We are sorry, but the part you selected is temporarily out of stock. However, we are constantly replenishing our inventory and there's a good chance that this part will become available soon. You can: * Call your sales representative at 0800 013 0330 or +44 (0)1355 586 000 for the most current information or check back often to see when the part you selected is available. * Or, purchase your memory today by returning to the previous page and selecting a comparable product.

mushkin.com I used to be their importer in Finland. They're really high quality and come with lifetime warranty. 1GB 333MHz seems to be $276 at the moment. They do ship to Nordic, FedEx to Finland was $36 a while ago.

macxpres.dk In the end, Guan pointed me to MacXpress.dk, where I've just ordered the RAM block. And yes, it's 1 GB :)
