Apple gives you $50 back for your iPod

There’s been a settlement over the iPod batteries. I don’t see a link on their Danish home page—does anybody know if this settlement is only valid for US customers? ‘cause our iPods are broken, too, you know …

UPDATE: Simon read the notice more carefully than I: This only applies to US residents.

    According to the Notice of Pendency and Proposed Settlement of Class Action, "All persons or entities residing in the United States who purchased or obtained a First, Second, or Third Generation iPod on or before May 31, 2004."

    Bummer. Time for us to put forth our own class action lawsuit. But wait, there's no such thing in Danish law. Damn!

    Yeah, wondered the same thing when read about from Good Morning Silicon Valley, as far as going into the hassle to read the agreement. Real bummer, my iPod has been down to about 2,5 hours for long. I think Apple would really gain some goodwill if they extended this offer to be globally valid. Guess they're not really into that.

    Hmmm, wonder what the local consumer ombudsman would say about this. Apple has clearly admitted that their products are defective. They've been selling exactly the same products here so it's kind of double standards to say that they are not faulty.

    Interestingly, it doesn't matter where you bought it, but where you live (reside). I bought my first iPod in the US, and still have the receipt, but that seems not to matter.
