Web 1.0 vs 2.0 exposed

If you’re still unsure of the difference between web 1.0 and 2.0, there’s no better way than a side-by-side comparison.

Compare the Web 2.0 version of this site to the Web 1.0 version. The 2.0 version comes complete with rounded corners, less clutter, a personal story, and a blog that’s been running all of 10 days. The product itself, of course, is pretty one-oh. (Via an ad onSvN)

    Defintely two different sites. One from May 2004, the other from Jan 2006. This is a middle time as we are currently undergoing a rebrand and a redirection with regards to our business and our development direction. With respect to the application being pretty 1.0....that is somewhat true, somewhat debateable. We just released our 13th new verion since May 2005. We have applied many of the usabuility prinicples that make apps web 2.0. We are now leveraging AJAX and DTHML is mays we did for the first year post release. Ask me if I really care about being Web 2.0...? I don't? Ask me if I really care if we are helping businesses save time billing with a product that is easy to use? I'll tell you that that is all that matters. With respect to the two different sites, the old one is about to die off. It represents ancient times at 2ndSite. Infact we are in the process of murdering our brand: http://www.brandmurder.com/ Regarding the blog, I'm pretty excited about it. It blog is being written by 6 people, one of whom has been blogging since 2000 (check out the first post to see who's involved). The truth is you have to start a blog sometime, so it is always going to be 10 days old at some point in time.     Hi Mike Thanks for taking the time to explain. For the record, I'm no fan of the web 2.0 label and try to avoid using as much as I can, but I did find the comparison of the new and the old site very entertaining. I guess a bit of the ironi was lost in the written word. I wish you all the luck in the world with your makeover.

    Lars, No worries and thanks for the note. For the record I really enjoy your point of view and I too think it is interesting to see the change and the comparison because it is quite a contrast. It sort of encapsulates the change in the web's design aesthetic over the past few years... For the record, we have learned a pile since we first released - both from ourselves, our users and our peers (i.e. other developers and designers) like yourself. Things are getting better online – I’m psyched about it.
