Wagamama

I was introduced to Wagamama in Amsterdam about a year ago by Stephen Donnelly, who was then project manager for the CMS that I built for Greenpeace. I absolutely loved the combination of a surprisingly great taste, fast service, informal atmosphere, and how good I felt after eating there.

It’s a complete surprise, too, because it’s a streamlined fast food restaurant with a standardized menu and computerized ordering, yet the food is both great tasting and healthy. Not your typical fast food place.

Today, I found and bought the cookbook by chance, and I’ve read most of it, and am really excited about getting started cooking stuff from it.

But best of all, as I was doing research for this post, I noticed to my great delight that they are opening a restaurant in Copenhagen this spring. I’m going to be there as soon as it opens and see if it’s as good as the one in Amsterdam. Yay!

    Originally a London concept restaurant, it was the place to go when you were fed up eating sushi at Yo Sushi where I spent some time McJobbin' in the nineties instead of riding the bubble. The food is quite good, but the idea of seating a bunch of people at long tables tend to bring a substantial increase in noise, which sometimes made it impossible to actually have a conversation while eating... I'm thinking it might be the place to go for lunch, though - or maybe the Copenhagen crew is just really quiet and well-beahaved? ;-)

    Wagamama's is such a great place, pollas is right though i does get noisy and crowded sometimes but there are so many you just have to find the right one, well in London anyway - lots to choose from!! i didnt realise they had a cookbook though, thanks for that - i have to have it!

    We went to Wagamama after the Carson Summit in London and it was a really interesting first-time experience for me. Walking the stairs of an old house to the fourth floor and the line of about 20 people in front of us was a bit scary for someone who knew nothing about Wagamama. The line turned out to move really quickly, however, and we were seated in less than five minutes. Needless to say, the dinner was very much worth the effort. Like pollas says, the hall is pretty noisy but I think it also is a part of the athmosphere. Can't wait for that kind of "fast food" to gain more space in Nordic, too.
