Nifty HTML validator plugin for Safari

May 28, 2006 · 0 comments

I installed this plugin for Safari a few days ago, and I’ve already gotten addicted. It makes validating your pages as easy as not to, and it helps track down bugs, too. What can be better than that? (Via TUAW).

Me and his Steveness

May 25, 2006 · 0 comments

Just found out I’ve been using the same sneakers that His Steveness does for years, the New Balance 991. Bought them the first time in Chicago in 2000, and have been getting new pairs regularly since, with the complication that arises from them not being imported to Denmark. My latest pair was mailed from Lady Foot Locker in the US via Amazon to Florence a few weeks ago. No kidding.

Of course, I only found out now because now he’s replaced them with a pair of Nike. Bugger.

How dangerous are eggs really?

May 25, 2006 · 4 comments

Something about the whole pasteurized eggs craze has always bothered. Pasteurized eggs are a such a poor substitute for the real thing. And if you want to be safe, you can’t have an omelette, or any other kind of eggs where yolk doesn’t fully coagulate. Conversely, the risk of eating raw eggs has always stricken me as really miniscule compared to other everyday risks such as driving. The fact alone that there’s so much media attention when there is a new case, tells you it probably doesn’t happen all that often.

I’ve long wondered how big of a problem it really is. Well, now I found some numbers (in Danish, concerning Denmark). According to the article, there were 215 cases, of which 12% related to eggs, which makes 26 egg-related cases. Out of a population of 5,430,984, that means .00047873% of the population suffered from egg-related salmonella. The year before, there were just 100 cases, making 12 egg-related cases (assuming the same ratio).

Back from a month in Italy

May 24, 2006 · 5 comments

I’m back in Copenhagen after spending a whole month on the Italian roads, driving my 18 year old Volvo 240 the about 2,000 kms down south of Naples. We spent two weeks working in Florence, and then another two weeks vacationing in Campania, Umbria, Toscana, and Ligure. I feel like I belong there more than I do here. I’ve eaten gelato and lots of food every day, and only exercised twice, and still managed loose weight. Go figure.

Alas, now we’re back, and I’m again hard at work with deadlines looming. I hope you’ve all been well while I was away.
